DALLAS REMOTE IMAGING GROUP
The DALLAS REMOTE IMAGING GROUP (DRIG) has a primary mission
of tracking, monitoring, capturing, and decoding telemetry from
American NOAA and Soviet Meteor APT weather satellites in polar
orbit.
This group has as its foundation a dedicated support team that
provides a development nucleus in which software and hardware
design, development, and evaluation is conducted to further the
amateur use of APT, HRPT, and VISSR data products from the polar
orbiting and geosynchronous satellites.
The elected officers of the DALLAS REMOTE IMAGING GROUP are:
Jeff Wallach (N5ITU) - Chairman
John Williams - Vice-Chairman
Jim Blocker (KF5IW) - Director, Software Design and Evaluation
Jose Sancho (WB5YFU) - Director, Hardware Interfacing
Tom Kelso - Air Force/NASA Liason
DRIG also is in contact with other Remote Imaging Teams worldwide,
and receives intelligence reports from various sources on American
and Soviet space programs, military intelligence missions, and remote
imaging satellites.
DRIG is a splinter group from the 'original' team that has spent
many hours developing amateur remote imaging systems. Notables
such as Grant Zehr, Dave Latsch, Charlie Judge, Chuck Pocius,
John Dubois, Loren Johnson, Mike Christienson, Clay Abrams, Ralph
Taggart, Greg Roberts, and Raul Alverez (author of the JOURNAL
OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL SATELLITE USERS GROUP) have been instrumental
in assisting DRIG with developmental assistance during its 'infancy'
stages.
DRIG interfaces directly with NOAA/NESDIS in Washington DC and provides
a shadow copy of the private NOAA bulletin board services through the
auspices of DATALINK RBBS (214-394-7438).
DRIG welcomes interested users to join our organization and support the
development of amateur remote imaging systems.
There is currently no fee involved, however, it is required that members
be active participants and provide useful input to our development
programs. This is a professional organization comprised of dedicated
professionals in the computer and telecommunications industries.
Information related to DRIG will be communicated through the DATALINK
RBBS (214-394-7438). There are plans for a monthly newsletter that will
be distributed worldwide. (The newsletter -- with permission of
Raul Alvarez -- will from time to time make references to the premier
publication on remote imaging -- THE JOURNAL OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL
SATELLITE AMATEUR USERS GROUP).
If you are interested in becoming a member of DRIG and can offer your
professional services, please contact Jeff Wallach at the following
